FAQs

Treen refers to small, functional wooden objects made by hand before the widespread adoption of mass production. This category encompasses items ranging from domestic utensils to desk accessories like page turners and letter openers.

Makers frequently utilised dense domestic hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, walnut, and oak. These timbers were chosen for their fine grain and capacity to hold intricate hand-carved details.

Authenticity is indicated by tool marks, natural patina developed through handling, shrinkage cracks, and wear patterns consistent with age. Hand-applied details like chip carving show minor irregularities absent in modern replicas.

These small objects add tactile warmth and historical context when displayed on coffee tables, bookshelves, or desks. They pair well with neutral palettes, natural stones, and organic textiles.

Preservation requires keeping wooden objects away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations. Cleaning should be limited to dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes or water.
