Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This square coffee table is a French Louis XV revival piece from the 1920s, fashioned from rosewood and kingwood with a warm brown colour palette. The top displays a geometric quartered marquetry veneer pattern edged in brass, set above a serpentine apron with a frieze drawer on one side and supported by slender cabriole legs terminating in brass sabots. The timber reveals a rich woodgrain finish complemented by polished metal mounts. Measuring 46 cm high, 100 cm wide, and 100 cm deep, the table provides a low, expansive surface suitable for placement in a formal living room or drawing room as a central coffee table. It functions well in front of a sofa or central seating arrangement to hold books, decorative items, or serving trays.

FAQs

The Louis XV style, originating in the 18th century, is characterised by Rococo influences including asymmetrical curves, delicate cabriole legs, serpentine outlines, intricate marquetry wood veneers, and ornate gilded bronze or brass mounts.

Craftsmen during the 1920s revival period utilised fine hardwoods such as rosewood, kingwood, and walnut for decorative marquetry and parquetry veneers, paired with solid timber frames and cast brass or bronze mounts.

Authentic 1920s revival pieces feature hand-cut marquetry patterns, traditional joinery techniques, natural patina on the metal mounts, and evidence of historical wear on the underside of the frame and legs.

A French marquetry coffee table serves as a focal point when placed on a neutral rug, surrounded by clean-lined tailored seating, and paired with minimalist decorative accents to highlight the intricate woodwork.

Maintain wood veneers by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and applying a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly to protect the finish.
