FAQs

Syrian marquetry, particularly from Damascus, has a rich tradition dating back centuries, renowned for intricate geometric patterns created by assembling delicate strips of wood, bone, and mother of pearl.

These pieces typically utilise dense foundational woods such as walnut or rosewood, inlaid with contrasting woods, fruitwoods, bone, and mother of pearl, often assembled using precise joinery and traditional multi-axis folding designs.

Authenticity is identified through meticulous hand-cut geometric tessellations, natural material variations like bone or mother of pearl, traditional construction methods, and authentic ageing of the timber and adhesives.

This type of table serves as a striking focal point in eclectic or minimalist spaces, contrasting effectively against neutral upholstery and modern architecture through its rich texture and complex geometry.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the natural dyes and timbers, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
