Victorian Inlaid Walnut Basket Base Table

£2,450    $3,104    €2,956
Victorian inlaid walnut basket base table

This Victorian inlaid walnut basket base table was made circa 1875.

I always admire these tables with the magnificent solid walnut basket bases.

The oval top has the burr walnut with the fine inlaid patterns to the corners that are joined by fine box wood stringing.

The base with the carved cabriole legs that join the scroll supports that raise up to support the top. The centre of the base has a fine turned finial.

Not only can this be used as a dining table but also as a special centre table.

Imagine how incredible this will look in your home and how it will enhance the room it is placed.

It is fascinating to imagine what events were happening when this table was first set the original owners’ home, a time when Benjamin Disraeli was the Prime Minister of the UK, who granted Queen Victoria to be the Empress of India. Also, the Zulu wars would be in the news where the British Army lost the battle of Isandlwana where they were routed by the Zulu’s before the famous defensive action at Rorke’s Drift that turned a massive defeat into a honourable victory fought by brave combatants from both sides and 11 Victoria Crosses were won.
