FAQs

Trestle tables date back to medieval times when boards and trestles were temporarily set up in great halls for banquets and taken down afterwards to clear the space.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from solid quarter-sawn English or European oak, joined using traditional mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-planed surfaces, irregular tool marks, shrinkage cracks, natural oxidisation, and the presence of hand-cut joints rather than modern mechanical fixings.

Pairing a historic wooden table with minimalist modern seating creates a balanced contrast that highlights the natural grain and texture of the aged timber.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and periodically nourish the wood with natural beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
