George II card tables were produced in Britain between 1727 and 1760 as functional gaming furniture for private drawing rooms. These tables feature hinged tops that fold out to expose a green baize interior and typically convert into console tables when closed.

Dense West Indian mahogany was the primary timber chosen for its durability, dark grain, and suitability for deep hand-carving. The internal frames incorporated secondary woods such as oak or pine, connected with hand-cut dovetail joints and cast brass fold hinges.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, natural oxidisation on unpolished under-surfaces, and characteristic cabriole legs ending in pad, webbed, or claw and ball feet. The carving along the leg knees usually depicts shell, acanthus, or flora motifs executed directly into the solid timber.
