We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Parian ware is a type of unglazed biscuit porcelain developed in the 1840s, named after Paros, the Greek island famed for its white marble. Formulated to copy carved marble, it allowed fine, intricate figure sculptures to be mass-produced for Victorian domestic interiors.

Parian ware is composed of a vitrified feldspathic porcelain body containing a higher proportion of feldspar than standard porcelain. This composition creates a semi-translucent, smooth, matte texture that closely resembles sculpted marble without requiring a surface glaze.

Authentic 19th-century Parian figures possess a distinct matte finish, subtle translucency when held to light, and sharp cast detail. Look for maker marks or registration diamonds impressed into the base, alongside signs of hand-tooling on seams and detailed facial features.

Parian sculptures provide strong visual contrast against dark or richly painted backdrops, such as navy or deep green walls. Place them on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or sideboards to introduce classical proportions into traditional or contemporary decorative schemes.

Clean Parian ware using a soft brush to remove surface dust. For ingrained dirt, gently wipe the surface with a cloth dampened with warm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive sponges that could scratch the unglazed body.
