This Edo Period architectural salvage is an antique Japanese storehouse door dating to 1800. Constructed from cedar, pine, and iron, the rectangular piece exhibits a reddish-brown timber finish with visible grain variation, extensive weathering, and hand-forged iron lockplates at the base. The structural design incorporates a slatted upper grill divided by a horizontal cross-brace and solid wood lower panels with recessed detailing. Measuring 190 cm high, 125 cm wide, and 7.5 cm deep, the heavy panel serves as a bold decorative partition or wall feature within an industrial loft or contemporary living space. The heavy timber construction and weathered surfaces provide historical character suited for modern architectural display.

Historically known as a kura door, these heavy timber doors were built to secure traditional Japanese storehouses against fire and theft during the Edo and Meiji periods.

These doors were typically constructed from durable woods such as cryptomeria cedar or keyaki, reinforced with hand-forged iron plates, studs, and heavy locking mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery techniques without modern fasteners, hand-hammered iron fittings, and surface wear consistent with historical outdoor exposure.

Architectural doors can be mounted as statement wall art, repurposed as headboards, or hung on modern sliding tracks to serve as functional room dividers.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a dry cloth and apply clear beeswax sparingly to preserve the finish, keeping the piece away from direct water or high humidity.
