Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1920s lounge set comprises a low coffee table, a standard lamp, a table lamp base, and a magazine rack, all manufactured from light oak wood. The items display a light brown colour throughout and are decorated with detailed pyrography landscape engravings depicting palm tree imagery. The low coffee table includes a glass top surface resting on four tapered legs, while the magazine rack incorporates an arched handle and the lamps feature cylindrical bodies. The coffee table measures 45 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this collection suits a living room setting as functional furniture pieces that provide surface space, illumination, and magazine storage. The set coordinates together to introduce tropical motifs into an interior layout while maintaining the light wood finish of mid-century modern design aesthetics.

FAQs

Mid-century oriental pyrography furniture incorporates wood-burning techniques or detailed shallow relief carvings to depict rural, tropical, or traditional Asian landscapes onto timber surfaces. Popularised as export art and novelty home items during the mid-20th century, these pieces feature distinct regional motifs alongside modern mid-century silhouettes.

These sets were primarily constructed from lightweight hardwoods, light oak, or softwood composites, often finished with a clear lacquer or varnish. Details were burnt into the timber using pyrography tools or hand-engraved before being paired with glass tops or brass electrical fittings.

Authentic pieces typically showcase splayed tapered legs, period wiring fittings, uniform surface lacquer, and hand-executed pyrography with subtle variations in line depth. Look for light age-appropriate wear to the timber joinery and original glass protective tops.

Integrate key pieces individually alongside neutral upholstery to allow the detailed wood engravings to stand out without overwhelming the space. Pair the standard lamp or low table with contemporary linen textiles and natural houseplants to complement the botanical themes.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that can degrade the protective lacquer layer. Keep the wooden surfaces away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, drying, or fading of the etched designs.
