An envelope games table is a piece of multi-functional furniture featuring a square folding top that opens diagonally like an envelope to reveal a baize-lined playing surface.

These tables typically utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood or walnut, frequently accented with marquetry, stringing, and fruitwood or boxwood inlay.

Authenticity is determined by examining traditional construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, period-appropriate brass hinges, and genuine marquetry rather than printed veneers.

Position the piece as an occasional table in a drawing room or study, allowing the detailed woodwork to serve as a focal point while maintaining its original functional purpose.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels away from direct sunlight, and periodically nourish the timber with appropriate conservation-grade beeswax.
