FAQs

Demi lune, or half-moon, tables gained popularity in the 18th century and evolved through the Victorian era as functional furniture designed to sit flush against a wall in hallways, parlours, and drawing rooms.

Victorian tables of this calibre were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like solid mahogany or veneered onto secondary timbers, featuring hand-carved ornamentation, mortise and tenon joinery, and polished wax finishes.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate tool marks, timber shrinkage, hand-cut joints, patination consistent with age, and construction characteristics specific to mid-19th-century cabinet making.

This piece can be placed against a narrow hallway wall or entryway beneath a mirror, serving as a surface for a lamp or decorative objects to introduce historical contrast into modern spaces.

Maintain the timber by avoiding direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, cleaning only with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the polished surface.
