FAQs

Tables from this era typically feature utilitarian construction designed for rural domestic life, often characterised by heavy timber boards, pegged joints, and integrated drawers for storage.

English and Welsh vernacular furniture of this period was predominantly crafted from native heartwood oak, frequently utilizing hand-planed planks for the top and sturdy turned or tapered legs for structural support.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as wooden pegs or trunnels, hand-sawn board marks, genuine patination from centuries of use, and signs of historical shrinkage and wear rather than uniform modern machining.

Pairing a historic wooden table with contemporary minimalist seating or industrial lighting creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich grain and aged texture of the timber as a central focal point.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations, cleaning only with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood surface.
