FAQs

A butler tray originates from the Georgian period in Britain, designed as a portable tray with folding sides for serving drinks and food, which could be placed on a collapsible X-frame stand when stationary.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring brass hinges and cut-out carrying handles on the hinged flaps.

Authentic period pieces often feature hand-cut dovetails, period brass hardware, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, and patination consistent with age and use.

This versatile piece functions well as an occasional coffee table, a drinks station in a living room, or an accent surface in a study, adding traditional texture to modern spaces.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and occasionally treating the wood with quality beeswax, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
