An etui is a small ornamental case used in the 18th century to hold needles, scissors, tweezers, and other small personal items. South Staffordshire and Battersea were renowned centres for producing these finely painted copper and enamel pieces during the Georgian era.

These pieces were typically constructed from a copper base coated in an opaque white enamel layer, which was then hand-painted with mineral colours and finished with gilded brass or gilt-metal mounts and hinges.

Authentic pieces often feature slightly uneven hand-applied enamel with minute crackle patterns under magnification, hand-painted polychrome details rather than transfers, and heavy copper bases visible on unglazed interior rims or wear points.

These miniature decorative objects are well suited for display inside glass-fronted cabinets, on velvet-lined trays, or on dressing table tops where their intricate hand-painted details can be appreciated at close range.

Keep enamel pieces away from direct sunlight to prevent fading of the hand-painted pigments, avoid moisture and harsh cleaning chemicals, and clean only with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
