We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Sutherland table is a compact drop-leaf occasional table designed in the mid-19th century, named after the Duchess of Sutherland. It features a narrow central top section with deep drop flaps supported by swinging legs, allowing it to fold away into a slender footprint when not in use.

These tables were commonly crafted from high-grade hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, rosewood, and satinwood. Construction typically involves turned leg supports, rule joints on the drop leaves, stretcher rails for stability, and brass castors at the feet.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut joinery, original brass or porcelain castors, and narrow rule-jointed leaves. The legs feature turned spindle detailing, and the swinging gate-leg mechanisms operate smoothly on original brass hinges.

Position the table alongside an armchair or sofa to serve as a versatile drinks table or reading stand. The upper and lower tiers provide ideal surfaces for displaying art books, small ceramics, or table lamps without occupying significant floor space.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the timber and protect the satinwood veneer from moisture loss or sun fading.
