Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century carved oak writing table typically features solid oak construction, intricate hand-carved relief work along the frieze, turnings such as barley twist or spiral legs, and an inset leather or skiver writing surface on the tabletop.

Period writing desks were primarily constructed from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. Writing surfaces were commonly lined with gold-tooled leather or baize, while drawers and support structures utilised mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-dovetailed joints.

Authentic 19th-century oak desks display signs of age such as natural shrinkage, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, historical wear around the footrests or stretchers, and original brass hardware or locks showing natural oxidisation.

A carved oak writing table can be styled in a modern interior as a focal study desk or hall table. Pairing it with contemporary neutral walls, modern desk lighting, and minimalist desk accessories highlights its detailed woodwork without visual clutter.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Clean the inset leather surface gently with a dedicated leather conditioner, avoiding harsh chemical sprays or excess water.
