The Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin, known as KPM, was founded in 1763 by King Frederick the Great of Prussia. Renowned for exceptional hard-paste porcelain, intricate hand-painted enamels, and refined gilded detailing, KPM became one of Europes premier ceramic producers during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Antique KPM pieces were constructed from hard-paste porcelain composed of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz. The objects were decorated using overglaze metallic enamels applied by hand and finished with burnished gold leaf gilding.

Authentic KPM porcelain typically features the makers mark hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue, depicting a royal sceptre. Original 18th and 19th-century examples also frequently carry painter marks, impressed numerals, and precise relief moulding along rims and handles.

Porcelain decorated with overglaze enamel and gilding should be hand-washed gently in tepid water using mild liquid soap. Abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleaners, and automatic dishwashers must be avoided to prevent wear to the gold leaf and enamel details.
