Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th-century Victorian porcelain gaming tokens, serving as whist markers, come as a set of six circular white counters. Each piece displays hand-painted decoration featuring either a king figure associated with a playing card suit or cursive script lettering in black, finished with gilded rims. The palette combines white porcelain with vibrant blue, red, and gold detailing on the painted motifs, alongside visible surface marks and minor wear from age. Measuring 0.5 cm high, 3.5 cm wide, and 3.5 cm deep, these small counters sit neatly on a flat surface. Today, these tokens find a practical place on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library or a living room, where they can be displayed as part of a collection or used as decorative accents. Their compact proportions make them suitable for arranging in a small decorative dish or laying flat on display surfaces. The combination of hand-painted royal motifs and script writing brings traditional gaming history into contemporary interior settings.

FAQs

Dust the surfaces gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water immersion, abrasive materials, or chemical cleaners that could erode the delicate overglaze paint and gilding.

Small decorative tokens can be mounted in bespoke shadow-box frames as wall art, arranged on small trays, or displayed under glass cloches on bookshelves and sideboards.

Authentic 19th-century counters display minor variations inherent to hand-applied enamels, gentle surface wear to the gilded rims, and period-appropriate copperplate or handwritten cursive lettering.

These tokens were typically crafted from fine porcelain or earthenware, decorated with hand-painted overglaze enamel illustrations and trimmed with gold leaf gilding.

Ceramic gaming tokens were utilised as counters or markers for scoring and tracking stakes in traditional parlour and card games such as whist, ombre, or quadrille during the 18th and 19th centuries.
