Rare Staffordshire Figure Of A Leopard Hunter

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine example of a Staffordshire figure depicting a leopard hunter on horseback. The figure is beautifully modelled with the horse rearing as the leopard attacks from below. The piece has really great decoration with the horse sponged to give a dappled coat and the leopard and undergrowth coloured in detail. This is a rare and desirable figure which was probably inspired by Astley’s circus. The whole is in good antique condition with some loses to the overglaze decoration particularly in the undergrowth. C.1870.
