Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Italian country trestle table combines a scrubbed natural pine top with a painted timber base. The substantial top sits on shaped trestle legs joined by a keyed stretcher, which includes a central drop finial underneath. The timber base carries a teal finish, contrasting with the warm brown grain of the wooden top. The structure measures 76 cm high, 292 cm wide, and 94 cm deep. Suitable for use as a large dining table in a kitchen or country dining room, the piece provides seating space along its generous length. The rustic farmhouse aesthetic suits traditional and eclectic interiors, offering a practical surface for everyday family dining or gatherings.

FAQs

A traditional Italian trestle table is a form of dining or communal surface supported by trestle-style end supports connected by a central horizontal stretcher, historically designed to provide stability and maximised legroom.

These tables commonly feature local softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, walnut, or chestnut, often paired with mortise-and-tenon joinery, keyed stretchers, and traditional milk paint or painted finishes on the base.

Look for signs of historical joinery techniques such as hand-cut tenons secured with wooden pegs, irregular timber surface textures from hand planing, and natural wear along the footrests and tabletop edges.

Pair the table with clean-lined modern dining chairs or upholstered seating to balance the rustic texture and dark painted base within a contemporary dining room or open-plan kitchen.

Clean the unsealed wooden top with a lightly damp cloth and dry immediately, applying wax polish periodically to protect the timber surface while dusting the painted base with a soft microfibre cloth.
