Drum tables gained popularity during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, often used in libraries and studies as central freestanding writing or reference tables.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, featuring a circular top, often inset with leather, supported by a central pillar and splayed legs.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting dovetail joints in the drawers, hand-turned pillars, patination on the wood, and traditional brass castors fitted to the feet.

A drum table works effectively as a freestanding centrepiece in an open-plan room or study, styled simply with a bronze sculpture or a stack of leather-bound books.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying periodic coats of natural beeswax, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
