An 18th-century tripod table is a small, portable accent table featuring a circular top supported by a central pillar and three cabriole legs, often designed with a tilt-top mechanism for convenient storage.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, valued for their rich grain, stability, and durability, often featuring turnings and hand-carved pad feet.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as pegged tenons, hand-cut dovetails, aged patina with oxidisation, subtle irregularities from hand-working, and traditional birdcage or bird-cage mechanisms.

Pair the warm timber tones with contemporary upholstery and neutral walls, using the table surface to display a simple ceramic vase, a stack of books, or as an occasional spot next to a modern armchair.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and clean only with a soft, dry cloth or occasional application of high-quality beeswax.
