Pair of Staffordshire Pottery Dog Quill Holders

Description

A fine and unusual pair of Staffordshire pottery quill holders modelled as dogs with rabbits. The pair of dogs are beautifully depicted at rest with the rabbits they have caught ready for their master. The dogs are also a true pair as they oppose each other. The decoration is very good with the spaniels painted in black. The pair are in very good condition with the usual firing faults and some minor loss to the decoration. There is a label to the underside on one dog for the dealer Oliver Sutton who was one of the top London dealers in Staffordshire in the 1980s. The pair date to C.1860.
