A Mid-nineteenth Century Octagonal Centre Table Attributed to James Winter

Description

Primarily constructed from a carved mahogany and inlaid with striking specimen wood marquetry, the table is supported on barley twist legs with tapering ends and oblate bun feet; joined by a substantial stretcher centred by a finial; the octagonal top with an elaborate pierced apron and radial mahogany veneers set within a marquetry reserve of geometric scrolled designs.

The design of the table is seemingly related to the furniture produced by London’s James Winter, who was based on Wardour Street. An octagonal table previously with Butchoff, stamped by Winter, showcases identical marquetry designs in the reserve of top.
