Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the mid-to-late 18th century, Chippendale card tables were designed for popular social card games such as ombre and whist. Characterised by fold-over tops and elegant proportions, these tables functioned as decorative console tables against room perimeter walls when not actively in use.

These tables were typically crafted from dense mahogany featuring rich grain patterns and deep patination. Construction methods included hand-cut dovetail joints, brass rule joints along the hinged top, and rear swing-leg gate mechanisms to support the leaf when opened.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved details, timber oxidisation on unseen surfaces, and original iron or brass hinges. The underside of the frame often reveals hand-sawn tool marks and period-correct joinery rather than modern mechanical fasteners.

In a modern room, a fold-over card table works as an entry hall console, a side table behind a sofa, or an accent piece in a drawing room alcove. Styling the top with a contemporary lamp, framed artwork, or ceramic vessel creates a balanced juxtaposition of eras.

To preserve the original finish, position the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and fading. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional application of high-grade beeswax polish will protect the patina and grain.
