Grand Tour architectural models were miniature sculptures of famous classical ruins, purchased by wealthy young Europeans during the 18th and 19th centuries as souvenirs of their travels through Italy and Greece.

These models were typically hand-carved from natural stones found in Italy, most commonly white marble, alabaster, limestone, and various coloured marbles representing different architectural elements.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved detailing with tool marks appropriate to the 19th century, natural ageing and patination of the stone, and structural construction methods consistent with nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

Positioning the piece on a library mantelpiece, an office desk, or a bookshelf adds architectural interest and historical depth to a room, pairing particularly well with dark woods and leather.

Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and keep the item away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent the stone from degrading.
