Mark Seabrook Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
...this fine example is made of a central shaft of malacca, which was used for the finest walking sticks and canes of the period....it is weighted at each end with lead and is covered in fine thread....I have never had one made of malacca , usually made from baleen .....it is the last one to be offered for sale from the dealer's collection , I bought the other two from and as he says it is his favourite, as he has never seen one made like this......excellent condition.
