This Georgian mahogany wine table dates from 1750 and adopts a tripod design typical of the period. The dark brown timber finish complements the inlaid starburst decoration centred on the circular top, while turned sections shape the vertical pedestal stem. Three curved legs provide structural support, ending in simple plain feet. Signs of age appear as minor surface marks and dark patches on the wood surface. Practical dimensions of 68.5 cm high, 35.5 cm wide, and 35.5 cm deep make this piece suitable for placement at the end of a sofa in a living room or study. It functions well as a compact surface for drinks or small decorative items within an English Country House interior setting.

Georgian wine tables emerged in 18th-century Britain as portable occasional stands designed to hold decanters, glasses, or candles near armchairs and dining areas.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, featuring turned central pillars and hand-dovetailed or splayed tripod legs, frequently enhanced with marquetry or wood inlays.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut joinery beneath the top, original iron or wooden block fixings, natural oxidisation on the timber underside, and hand-turned column detailing.

A wine table functions as a compact side table adjacent to a contemporary sofa, placed in a reading corner beside an armchair, or set in an entryway to hold key accessories.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent wood movement and fading.
