Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1880 Victorian Gothic centre table takes the form of a large octagonal piece in pale bleached oak, standing at 76 cm high with a diameter of 142 cm. The solid timber construction presents an octagonal top over a carved frieze with shaped aprons, supported by stout turned legs connected to a lower octagonal shelf via curved stretchers. The pale wood grain shows natural grain variation and a dry, stripped finish throughout the structure. Suitable for positioning in the centre of a spacious reception room or library in a country house setting, the table provides a broad surface for display alongside a practical lower tier for books or ornaments. The heavy turned supports and detailed carving establish a functional focal point for daily use within traditional interiors.

FAQs

Centre tables are designed to be viewed from all sides, historically positioned in the middle of a hall, foyer, or grand reception room to act as an architectural focal point.

They were predominantly crafted from solid English or European oak, utilising traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-turned legs, and detailed carved aprons.

Look for hand-cut joinery, evidence of wood shrinkage across the grain over time, authentic wear on lower stretchers, and hand-carved decorative motifs.

A bleached oak centre table serves as a light, textural anchor in an entryway or living room, complementing contemporary ceramics, neutral textiles, and modern art.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a light clear matte wax periodically to protect the timber without altering its pale tone.
