Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These two Von Schierholz German porcelain wall sconces, dating from the Rococo Revival period of circa 1930, present white glazed bodies decorated with hand-painted polychrome garden flowers and gilded scrollwork. Each piece takes the form of a shaped backplate supporting two scrolling arms, terminating in candle nozzles fitted with electrical tubes, and is further ornamented with encrusted dimensional porcelain flower heads and foliage. The surface displays minor chips to a few petals. Measuring 39.5 cm high, 31 cm wide and 15.5 cm deep, the sconces are sold as collector's items and require rewiring by a qualified electrician to function as working electric lights. In a modern home, these wall lights suit placement on a narrow wall space in a hallway, drawing room, or bedroom to introduce a decorative focal point with a French chateau design vibe. They are mounted directly to the wall surface, positioned to frame a mirror, doorway, or piece of furniture.

FAQs

Von Schierholz porcelain originates from Plaue, Thuringia, Germany, where the manufactory established a reputation in the 19th century for elaborate Rococo Revival ceramics. These wall sconces feature hand-modelled floral encrustations and scrollwork inspired by 18th-century Dresden and Meissen designs.

These pieces are crafted from hard-paste porcelain, painted by hand with polychrome enamel decoration and trimmed with gilding. They frequently incorporate hand-shaped applied flowers, foliage, and intricate scrollwork arms.

Authentic Von Schierholz items typically feature the factory mark on the reverse, such as the crown over P or Plaue mark stamped or painted underglaze. Additionally, genuine pieces exhibit high-definition hand-modelling on the applied flowers and fine brushwork on the painted detailing.

Flank a large gilded mirror or artwork above a console table or mantelpiece with porcelain sconces to add texture and classic symmetry. In contemporary schemes, placing them against a dark wall highlights the intricate porcelain foliage and gilding.

Dust encrusted porcelain gently using a soft-bristled makeup brush or compressed air to avoid breaking delicate petals. Avoid harsh chemicals or immersion in water, cleaning only surface marks with a slightly damp cotton swab.
