This Regency sofa games table dates from circa 1820 in the Anglo-Chinese export style. Constructed from padouk wood, the piece displays a faded honey brown colour with highly figured swirling timber patterns and dark string inlay. The table stands on splay legs with trestle end supports and features two drawers with wooden knobs and brass keyhole escutcheons below drop leaves. Surface wear is visible across the timber alongside grain variations from age. Measuring 74.5 cm high, 64 cm wide and 53 cm deep, this item functions practically behind a sofa or against a wall in a living room as a side table or writing surface.

Anglo-Chinese export furniture refers to items crafted in China during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries specifically for Western buyers, combining European functional furniture designs with native Chinese timbers such as padouk.

These tables are constructed using dense tropical hardwoods, primarily solid padouk or rosewood, combined with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, subtle wood line inlay, and brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authenticity is indicated by the characteristic weight and reddish-brown grain of padouk timber, Cantonese drawer construction techniques, period-correct brass fittings, and Western forms executed with Chinese joinery methods.

Position the table directly behind a free-standing sofa or along an entryway wall, utilising the folding end leaves to adjust the surface area according to space requirements.

Dust the surface regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to preserve the patination while avoiding placement near direct heat sources.
