This collection of three 19th-century Mediterranean pottery vessels comprises two larger terracotta urns and one smaller water or wine vessel, all dating from circa 1880. Made from terracotta with applied pigment and clay, the pieces display a warm terracotta colour palette paired with brown painted geometric bands, wavy slip decoration, twin loop handles, and tapered foot bases. The smaller vessel retains its original cork in place within the neck. The two larger vessels measure 38 cm high, while the smaller water or wine vessel measures 34 cm high. Suitable for rustic farmhouse interiors, these decorative vessels work well displayed together on a sideboard top to bring historical character to a dining room or living space.

Historically crafted across coastal Southern Europe, Mediterranean painted pottery comprises wheel-thrown earthenware vessels decorated with geometric or oxide slip motifs for domestic storage and water transportation.

Vessels of this era were hand-thrown on a potters wheel using regional red terracotta clay, decorated with natural mineral slip pigments, and fired in traditional wood-burning kilns.

Authentic historical pieces display signs of hand-coiling or wheel marks, uneven surface patination, iron-rich terracotta body composition, and wear around handles and bases consistent with functional use.

Earthenware vessels provide structural interest when placed on console tables, display shelving, or floor hearths, contrasting textured terracotta against contemporary minimalist surfaces.

Dust gently with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid using water or chemical cleaners, as unglazed terracotta absorbs moisture which can compromise age-related slip decoration.
