This Regency period mahogany dining table presents a warm brown timber colour with a rich grain visible across the surface. The table has a square top with rounded corners, a crossbanded border, fine dark stringing, and a reeded edge, supported by a shaped central pedestal, a circular platform base, and four swept splayed legs terminating in brass toe caps and castors. It stands 73 cm high, 134 cm wide, and 112 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this piece functions well as a dining table or central table in a dining room, kitchen, or library, providing a surface for daily meals or working spaces while maintaining classic proportions.

Regency dining tables, dating from the early nineteenth century, are defined by classical symmetry, pedestal supports, and splayed legs. They frequently feature figured mahogany surfaces, reeded borders, and brass toe caps or castors.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid and veneered mahogany imported from the West Indies, valued for its density and rich grain. Accent fittings were crafted from cast brass, including directional castors and securing latches.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, original brass hardware, and uneven timber shrinkage on underside surfaces. The timber often displays natural patination and oxidation from two centuries of polish and light exposure.

A dark mahogany pedestal table can be paired with modern upholstered dining chairs or minimalist lighting to create visual contrast. Placing the table centrally in a dining space allows the figured wood grain to remain the primary focal point.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a beeswax polish annually. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish fading.
