Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

George IV furniture, spanning from 1820 to 1830, bridges the late Regency and early Victorian eras. Writing tables from this period typically feature refined classical proportions, elegant wood veneers, reeded or turned tapering legs, and functional frieze drawers.

Craftsmen predominantly used solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers. Writing surfaces often incorporated inset gold-tooled leather, while drawers were fitted with hand-cut dovetail joints and cast brass handles or brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details such as reeding along the legs, hand-milled brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and original drawer construction showing hand-cut dovetails and period keyholes.

Place the writing table against a neutral wall in a home office, hallway, or living room. Combine it with contemporary artwork or modern task lighting to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern functionality.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax periodically in the direction of the wood grain. Clean leather insets using a damp cloth and treat with specialized leather conditioner to prevent cracking and maintain supple texture.
