FAQs

A demi-lune table is a half-moon shaped furniture piece that gained widespread popularity during the late 18th century Neo-classical period, frequently utilized as a pier table or serving console.

These tables are typically constructed using a solid timber frame such as mahogany, enhanced with contrasting wood veneers, boxwood stringing, and intricate marquetry or inlay work depicting floral and classical motifs.

Authenticity is assessed through examining the hand-cut dovetail joints, the type of secondary woods used in the carcase, hand-applied French polish finishes, and the natural ageing and oxidisation of the veneers.

Position the piece flat against an entryway wall or hallway to maximise floor space, and top it with a simple ceramic lamp or a minimalist mirror to balance traditional craftsmanship with modern decor.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or fading, and maintain the finish by occasionally applying microcrystalline wax rather than modern liquid polishes.
