It is one of the finest examples we’ve ever come across, it has an elegant and stylish design with some of the most fantastic inlaid patterns. The top is profusely inlaid with various woods, there is marquetry around the edges and parquetry in the centre. There is further beautiful inlaid marquetry work around the edges, and extremely high quality ormolu mounts. There is a single drawer on the front, the back is also nicely finished and appears identical, only without a drawer.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The bureau plat originated in France during the late 17th century and evolved through the Regency and Louis XV periods as a freestanding writing table designed to be placed in the centre of a room rather than against a wall.

Authentic pieces typically feature a solid oak or pine carcase veneered in exotic woods such as walnut, kingwood, or tulipwood, embellished with intricate marquetry or parquetry patterns and cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts known as ormolu.

Authentication involves examining the hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, checking for genuine hand-chased bronze mounts, and identifying natural ageing and shrinkage in the timber veneer rather than modern synthetic finishes.

An antique bureau plat serves as a striking focal point in a modern study or living space when paired with minimalist seating and contemporary lighting to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
