A Pembroke table is a form of small drop-leaf table with hinged flaps on either side, which first appeared during the 18th century in Georgian Britain.

They were typically constructed using fine hardwoods such as mahogany, sometimes with secondary softwoods like pine for drawer linings and oak for structural framing.

Authentic pieces feature period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, hand-forged or cast brass hardware, and patination consistent with age.

It can be placed beside a sofa or used as a compact writing desk, allowing its historical warmth to contrast effectively with contemporary minimalist decor.

Maintain a stable room temperature away from direct sunlight and radiators, and nourish the timber periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
