Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III lowboy is a small occasional table featuring drawers, typically produced during the reign of King George III between 1760 and 1820. They were traditionally used as dressing tables or side tables in elite households.

These tables are primarily constructed from solid mahogany or oak, often featuring fine secondary timbers like pine or oak for drawer linings. Traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawer construction and pegged mortise and tenon joints are standard.

Authentication involves examining the hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, patination on the wood, and original brass hardware or evidence of former fixings. Hand-sawn marks and irregular grain patterns under magnification indicate period craftsmanship.

A period lowboy functions effectively as a slimline console table in a hallway or as a characterful desk in a study. Pairing it with contemporary art or modern lighting creates an intentional contrast between old and new.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the wood finish.
