FAQs

Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical influences derived from ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, featuring clean lines, dark exotic woods such as rosewood and mahogany, and brass or gilt bronze mounts.

Cabinet makers of the Regency period primarily utilised dense tropical hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany, often applied as veneers over sturdy secondary timbers such as pine or oak, complemented by cast brass paw feet and brass inlay.

Authentication involves examining construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery, the presence of genuine timber shrinkage, and appropriate patination on the wood surfaces and brass hardware consistent with early 19th-century manufacturing.

A round wooden centre table anchors a room effectively when placed beneath a statement chandelier or styled with a minimalist floral arrangement, contrasting richly with contemporary neutral walls and streamlined soft furnishings.

Protect antique rosewood from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent veneer cracking, and maintain the finish by applying quality beeswax periodically while avoiding synthetic polishes or excessive moisture.
