The George II style, spanning from 1727 to 1760, is characterised by a transition from heavy walnut designs to the introduction of richly grained mahogany, featuring architectural proportions, cabriole legs, and ball and claw feet.

These tables were constructed primarily from solid mahogany or oak timbers, utilising traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon frames, hand-cut dovetail drawers, and delicate hinge mechanisms for folding tops.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, natural timber shrinkage, and rich patination developed through centuries of oxidation and wax polishing.

A period mahogany table provides a rich focal point in modern spaces, functioning effectively as a console against a neutral wall or paired with minimalist decor to highlight its historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish and protect the timber surface.
