FAQs

Victorian games tables gained immense popularity during the 19th century as parlour pastimes and entertaining at home became central to middle and upper-class social life.

Cabinet makers frequently employed high-value timbers such as burr walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, often enhanced with intricate marquetry and contrasting wood inlays for chess or backgammon boards.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate joinery, hand-turned secondary woods, traditional French polish finishes, and age-related patina on the working mechanisms and hinges.

An antique games table serves as a functional focal point in a living room or study, paired with minimalist contemporary seating to create a striking contrast between old and new.

Maintain burr walnut by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood.
