FAQs

Burr walnut saw a significant revival during the early twentieth century, drawing inspiration from Queen Anne and Georgian design motifs. Cabinet makers utilised the highly figured grain of walnut trees to create luxurious statement pieces for formal drawing rooms.

These pieces typically feature a solid oak or pine secondary wood carcass, expertly veneered with highly figured burr walnut slices. Traditional construction often includes hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon frames, and delicate crossbanding.

Authenticity is identified through natural wood grain variations, traditional hand-polished French polish finishes, and period-appropriate joinery. Genuine pieces often display age-appropriate patina, subtle shrinkage cracks in the veneer, and hand-carved details rather than cast resin.

This piece can be styled against a neutral wall as a console table with a minimalist ceramic vase or lamp placed on top. Its rich grain and warm tones add texture and historical contrast to contemporary living spaces.

Preserve the finish by keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally apply a quality beeswax polish, avoiding silicone-based sprays.
