The George III style spans the mid-to-late 18th century, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the prominent use of solid mahogany before the transition to lighter satinwood towards the end of the period.

These tables were constructed primarily from dense hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often featuring inset leather writing surfaces with blind-tooled gold borders and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails in the drawer construction, timber shrinkage consistent with age, hand-turned or tapered legs, and subtle patination on the brass handles and wood surfaces.

A period table functions effectively as a central workspace or console within modern schemes, contrasting clean architectural lines with rich wood tones and traditional craftsmanship.

Maintain the timber using natural beeswax applied sparingly, avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading, and clean the leather top with a dry or slightly damp cloth without harsh chemical solvents.
