William IV furniture, spanning the 1830s, acts as a transitional period between Regency and early Victorian styles, typically characterised by heavy proportions, robust scroll feet, and prominent use of dark tropical timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as solid rosewood and mahogany, often featuring secondary woods like pine or oak for internal framing and drawer construction.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned central pedestals, traditional joinery methods such as dovetails or pegged tenons, natural wax patination, and grain patterns consistent with pre-industrial timber harvesting.

Pairing a dark wood antique table with minimalist contemporary seating or placing it next to clean-lined neutral upholstery creates a balanced eclectic interior that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique rosewood by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent bleaching, and applying a microcrystalline wax annually to nourish the timber grain.
