Description

This is a spectacular late 18th century table made from solid walnut. The top is 2 plank and has the most amazing figuring throughout with elements of burr and strong grain. The planks are 3inch thick and have a stunning tactile feel to them from years of use. The base is pegged construction refectory design again made from walnut. One of the other designs I love is the circular pegged details between planks. Not seen this before. This is quite simply one of the best tables I have ever had and will work in a huge number of interiors. It is solid timber so you don't need to be precious about how you use it. It will stand the test of time.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Eighteenth-century furniture is characterised by a shift towards finer proportions, the prominent use of walnut and later mahogany, and regional craftsmanship that prioritised structural integrity alongside refined ornamentation.

These tables were constructed using solid native hardwoods like walnut or oak, joined with pegged mortise and tenon joints, and featured thick timber planks held together by structural stretchers.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joints, original tool marks, natural timber oxidisation, shrinkage cracks, and wear patterns consistent with centuries of manual use.

Pair the historic warmth of the wood with minimalist modern seating and clean architectural lines to create a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the texture of the table.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels, avoid direct sunlight, clean only with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally apply natural beeswax to nourish the historic surface.
