Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Imari bowl dates from the 19th century in the Meiji style. Manufactured from porcelain with enamel decoration, the piece exhibits a vibrant blue and red glaze with white accents, complemented by a scalloped, fluted rim and intricate panelled brocade motifs alongside chrysanthemum and floral roundels. The interior features a central circular medallion framing a detailed floral arrangement, while the exterior incorporates similar complex geometric and botanical patterns. Measuring 12 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 30 cm deep, the bowl rests securely on a dark wooden carved stand. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top in a living room, dining room, or hallway, this decorative bowl serves as a striking visual centrepiece. It fits well within an English Country House interior aesthetic, offering a traditional focal point for surface displays. The porcelain construction provides a durable display item for everyday interior styling, bringing rich colour and pattern to residential spaces.

FAQs

Imari porcelain originated in the Arita region of Japan and was exported through the port of Imari, gaining prominence from the seventeenth century onwards for its distinct blue and red pattern work.

Traditional Imari ceramics are formed from white porcelain clay, decorated with underglaze cobalt blue before firing, and finished with overglaze iron-red enamels and gilt detailing.

Authentic pieces from this period exhibit detailed hand-painted panel artwork, cobalt blue underglaze paired with iron-red enamels, and subtle surface variations from manual production.

Displaying the bowl on a dark timber sideboard, mantelpiece, or glass surface allows the rich pattern to serve as a focal visual contrast.

Clean the surface gently using a dry, soft cloth, avoiding immersion in water or chemical detergents that could erode the overglaze enamels and gilding.
