Nineteenth century furniture encompasses various revival movements and periods, often characterised by heavy timber construction, intricate carvings, and functional yet decorative designs intended to showcase craftsmanship.

Cabinet makers primarily utilised dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, and walnut, often complemented by brass hardware, hand-cut dovetail joints, and traditional natural wax finishes.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting construction methods, such as hand-cut joinery, tool marks, patination of the wood, and period-appropriate fixings rather than modern screws or machine processing.

Pairing historical timber pieces with minimalist modern decor creates a balanced contrast, allowing the natural grain and craftsmanship of the antique to serve as a focal point within the room.

Maintain timber furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the wood.
