This Regency dark rosewood library table brings formal character to a home study or living room, serving as a functional workspace or centre table. The piece features a rectangular top with a crossbanded edge and a well-figured timber grain showing rich dark brown tones. Two frieze drawers are integrated below the top, fitted with small keyholes and smooth wooden surfaces. The base consists of trestle end supports connected by a heavily turned central stretcher with bulbous mouldings. Ornate scroll feet rest upon original brass castors, providing mobility. Practical dimensions of 73.5 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 66 cm deep make it suitable for daily use while maintaining a grand presence.

Originating in the early 19th century during the British Regency era, library tables were designed for reading, writing, and displaying books in private study rooms or drawing rooms.

These tables were typically constructed from high-grade hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, often featuring brass castors, dovetail joinery in the frieze drawers, and central turned stretchers.

Authentic pieces feature characteristic early 19th-century construction details, including hand-cut dovetails, original brass castors, figured veneer patterns, and distinctive turned or carved trestle end supports.

A Regency library table can serve as a functional writing desk in a home office, a statement console table in a spacious hallway, or a sofa table behind a central living room couch.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax occasionally to nourish the wood and protect the original finish from drying out.
