Description

A fully impressed 45cms l 30cms w minton tile c1895 fully marked of all manner of victorian tradesmen. Many we didnt know existed.

We presume this was the centrepiece of a victorian shop.

The quality of the printing is superb .

It is perfect with no restoration .

It has a ring mark in the lower left corner. We havent attempted to clean it or try to remove it.

There are a few very minor chipping on the edges.

A "complete one off" we have listed it under kitchenalia.

Great decoration and a history lesson of victorian trades most long gone.

It could well have been used by minton to showcase their printing skills

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian transferware tiles often depicted popular cultural motifs, street cries, and historical scenes, utilising industrial printing techniques developed during the 19th century to mass-produce detailed imagery on ceramics.

These pieces were typically crafted from refined earthenware or white clay bodies, decorated using the transfer-printing method where engraved designs were applied via tissue paper before being glazed and fired in a kiln.

Authenticity is generally determined by inspecting the clay body, the depth and crispness of the transfer print, crazing in the glaze indicative of age, and specific manufacturer stamps or registration marks on the reverse.

Antique tiles can be displayed mounted in custom brass or wooden frames as wall art, integrated into bespoke fireplace surrounds, or placed on specialist stands for tabletop display.

Preservation requires dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials that could damage the aged glaze, and maintaining stable indoor humidity levels.
