Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Victorian era encompasses various revival styles spanning the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by ornate craftsmanship, heavy use of rich timbers like walnut and mahogany, and substantial proportions.

Victorian cabinet makers frequently utilised solid secondary woods like pine or mahogany for frames, overlaid with decorative veneers such as burr walnut, rosewood, or burl maple to create highly figured, symmetrical grain patterns on table tops.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional adhesives like animal hide glue, natural ageing of the timber including subtle oxidisation, and hand-carved details rather than modern cast resins.

Pairing historical wooden tables with modern upholstery or minimalist surroundings creates a striking contrast that highlights the intricate grain patterns and craftsmanship of the period piece without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and nourish the grain periodically using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone-based polishes.
